Bob visits Pennsylvania

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

“This [bailout] illustrates just how far the Republican Party in particular has slid. One would expect it from the Democrats, but for Republicans to be championing this massive government intervention down to the level of purchasing individual mortgages is unbelievable.” - Bob Barr

Yesterday, Bob visited Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, one of the battleground states in this election. Bob hammered on the bailout, energy and Iraq:

“You might notice that I’m not wearing a flag lapel pin,” Barr said, referring to public criticisms leveled in the primary against Democrat Barack Obama, who began wearing one after the issue was raised.

“And I only have one house — but more importantly, I don’t care how many houses these candidates have,” a reference to criticisms against Republican John McCain, who hesitated when asked how many homes he and his wife, Cindy, own.
[...]
Barr criticized the debate process, which does not include third-party candidates and permits the candidates to set the rules. The problem, Barr said, is that it allows the candidates to “stay in their comfort zone,” a term he repeated at least a half-dozen times during his presentation.

“To us, a debate is a real exchange of ideas,” he said. “By definition, it is pulling somebody outside their comfort zone.”

The visit also demonstrates our confidence that will win stay on the ballot in that state.

State Department News Service?

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Check this out. Notice anything about it? It’s a State Department website. Why in the hell are taxpayers footing the bill for a news service? Between CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, CBS, ABC and the multitude of blogs and internet source, what possible justification does the State Department have for taxpayer funded news service?

Technical Difficulties Resolved . . . we think

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Folks, just a quick update to explain the Web site outages over the past few days:

We’ve been working with our host, Rackspace, for the past 72 hours to resolve a problem that was causing our server to slow to a crawl about every ten minutes.

I think they’ve resolved it after an investigation this morning and we should be fine for now.  For the geeks out there, up2date, was stuck in a loop.

Thanks to Rackspace for working that out and to all the supporters who called 1-800-Bob-Barr to donate over the phone and check up on us.

Hurricane Gustav

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Bob Barr, Wayne Allyn Root and the rest of us in the campaign would like to send along our thoughts and prayers to everyone caught in the path of Hurricane Gustav.

New Orleans is one of my favorite towns in the country. I visited there in 2002 for the first time and it was great. My wife and I visited again last year. The city had rebounded much more than I expected and the spirit of the town never left. It’s terrible that they are staring down another potentially devastating storm.

While many of us will spend our holiday weekend cooking out or spending time with our families, please take a moment and remember those that are caught up in the storm.

Penn Jillette on Bloomberg TV

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

This is kind of off topic from the campaign, but Penn Jillette will be on Bloomberg TV tonight at 10pm on the show, Night Talk. Be sure to check your local listings for more information.

Many of you may know Penn as the louder half of Penn & Teller. Penn is also a libertarian and supporter of the Libertarian Party.

Barr Advises Congress on Restoring Checks & Balances

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

When asked for advice on how Congress can restore Checks and Balances without an Impeachment Inquiry, Bob Barr told them they could not make matters worse by giving the Presidency more power! The Executive Branch clearly did not abide by the law, passing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) gives them a free pass on illegal activity.

Bob Barr 2008 Statement on new Privacy Coalition

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

A lot of media attention has been focused on our privacy or, more appropriately, the invasion of our privacy by the government. The recent law that allows the government to intercept our phone calls and emails without any legitimate probable cause is the most glaring example. Ultimately we lose some freedom with virtually every new law or government regulation, but this particular law, FISA, is the granddaddy of all invasions of our privacy.

For the last several years Bob Barr has been fighting the government’s intrusion into our privacy at every step. There have been other organizations standing shoulder to shoulder with Bob. But, the recent focus on the invasion of our privacy has motivated a whole new group of concerned activists to join together in an effort to stop the government’s encroachment into our lives.

Some of the names of the organizers of this new group, AccountabilityNowPac, may be familiar to you. They come from a large variety of backgrounds and political beliefs joined in the common interest of protecting our privacy.

If you get a chance please take a look at their web site to learn more about them.

We welcome the leaders and supporters of Accontability Now Pac (http://accountabilitynowpac.com) to the fight to protect our freedom and liberties.
