Gura’s Choice for President? Bob Barr

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Riding high on his recent win before the Supreme Court, attorney Alan Gura took the time to volunteer his opinion about the best choice for the President’s race-

A television to his right displayed an interview with Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who responded to the decision with a vague nod to both an individual right to bear arms and the government’s right to regulate it. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., praised all four corners of the opinion.

“To be honest, I don’t really like either of them,” Gura volunteered.

His choice for president: Libertarian Bob Barr.

Not surprising considering Congressman Barr’s lifelong commitment to upholding the 2nd Amendment and his position on the NRA Board of Directors.  Barr also showed strong approval for the Supreme Court’s overturning of the DC gun ban in the Heller case. (Watch the video of Bob talking about the recent ruling.)

Libertarian Endorsements

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Summary of Endorsements for Congressman Barr-

It is my belief that Bob has always philosophically been a libertarian, and that he joined our ranks once it became abundantly clear that the Republican Party’s commitment to liberty is as vapid, shallow and non-existent as the Democrats, and that to try to reform the party from within is an exercise in futility. Bob Barr has garnered national exposure and name recognition far in excess of any other declared candidate for the LP nomination. Moreover, Bob Barr has garnered national exposure and name recognition far in excess of any other declared candidate for the LP nomination. Bob Barr also brings to the table an intangible but subtle quality which I don’t believe any of our other candidates have, and which we must have if we hope to ever break past the less than one percent vote total for our candidate:

He is “Presidential.”

As a delegate from the great state of Georgia, I am asking that you vote for former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr as our nominee for President of these United States.

-Lance Lamberton
Former Georgia Libertarian Party Executive Committee
Deputy Director of White House Policy Information under Reagan Administration
President and Founder of Cobb County Tax-Payers Association

There is only one candidate running for the LP nomination that can accomplish massive growth of the Kansas Libertarian Party – That candidate is Bob Barr.

I wholeheartedly endorse Bob Barr to be our Libertarian Presidential candidate for 2008. As a candidate on a lower political level for the LP (State Senate), I believe that there can be a positive trickledown effect from our presidential candidate. Having met and listened to most of our LP candidates — I believe that our best option for the 2008 political season is Bob Barr. I believe that we need someone who has media savvy, someone credible to those outside the LP world, someone who can debate McCain and Obama and present himself in a compassionate, reasonable and intelligent manner in representing the Libertarian Party. I will be voting (in Denver) for Bob Barr as our Libertarian Presidential candidate!

— Rob Hodgkinson
Kansas Libertarian Party State Chair
Advisory Board Chair of Atlas!Liberty
Candidate for Kansas Senate Dist. -37

Bob Barr is a candidate who can get the ‘foot in the door’ for libertarians. He’s media savvy, is well known, and credible. Just as important, he will speak to those in his former party who are disaffected by McCain. An active Bob Barr campaign should be welcome. It can be an effective tool for all Libertarians – radical and moderate – to further the cause of liberty beyond it’s current moribund state. Is some liberty better than none? Clearly, yes. It’s up to delegates to decide whether they want more liberty or remain satisfied with the status quo of diminishing freedoms in favor of an “all or nothing” approach. I strongly encourage delegates to consider the alternatives and support the best candidate going into Denver: Bob Barr!

— Gene Trosper
Former chairman of the Riverside County (CA) Libertarian Party

When a better candidate appears it is good to recognize it. I have terminated my campaign in favor of full support to Bob Barr and I encourage you to also support Bob Barr.

-Bob Jackson
Michigan businessman
Former Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate

Thank you, Mr. Barr, for formally announcing your candidacy for the Libertarian Party’s Presidential nomination. I look forward to meeting you in Denver and then the campaign thereafter. You have my full and enthusiastic support. We can bring the US Constitution back into the nation’s discourse and inform the American people that there is a better way that leads to peace, prosperity and liberty. Let’s win this!

-George Whitfield
Life Member of the Libertarian Party
Senior Director of Halcyon Search International

I heartily endorse the one man in the Libertarian Party who has a real world track record of political acumen and leadership skills: Bob Barr.

— Stephen P. Gordon
Chair, Libertarian State Leadership Alliance
Chairman, Libertarian Party of Alabama

In one of the best fields ever of Libertarian presidential aspirants, Bob Barr is the most qualified and most able to advance the Libertarian Party. I’ve not seen a candidate so able to capture the attention of the American public since Ed Clark in 1980. Bob Barr is my choice for the Libertarian presidential nomination.

-Mark Rutherford
Former LNC Member
Former Chair, Libertarian Party Indiana
Chairman of Atlas!Liberty PAC

Bob Barr has energized grass roots support for our party. I haven’t seen this kind of momentum for the LP in years.

— Jeff Bowles
Chair, Virginia Libertarian Party

Bob Barr has been a great asset in building the Libertarian Party. It was his principled integrity that attracted us to him and brought him to the Libertarian Party. His credibility, good ideas, and hands-on help have already made a real difference.

— Daniel N. Adams
Chair, Georgia Libertarian Party

Bob Barr has certain name ID and credibility that exceeds the other candidates. Based on my conversations with him, I’m convinced he is a small-government libertarian and he is exactly what the Libertarian Party needs to move us forward.

-Jimmy Blake, MD
Former Chair, Alabama Libertarian Party

Please Bob Barr, run… I am behind you 100%… You have the message of liberty. Please run… I think you could fix this country.

-Lisa Leeds
Candidate in 08 State House Dist. 58 TN
Vice Chair Libertarian Party Nashville, TN

It’s incredibly exciting to see the “freedom movement” continue under the LP banner and with an amazing leader like Bob Barr.

-Shana Kluck
Executive Committee, Alabama Libertarian Party
Former Ron Paul 2008 Alabama Field Coordinator
Former National Coordinator- Homeschoolers for Ron Paul

Bob Barr is the best Libertarian Presidential candidate for 2008. Running on libertarian campaign platform of cutting government spending, defending Constitutional liberties, and ending the War in Iraq, Barr has the potential to spread this message to the millions of Americans who favor smaller government and expanded personal liberty. This is a time for Libertarians to run specificially against the failed Republican policies of the last eight years, out of control spending, the destruction of the Bill of Rights and separation of powers, and a foreign policy of preventative war and nation building.
Bob Barr is the candidate for 2008.

Bill Woolsey
Economics Professor at The Citadel
Assistant organizer of the Charleston County Ron Paul meet-up.
Former member of the James Island Town Councl
Libertarian Candidate for Congress 2000
Former member of the Charleston County Planning Board
Former Chairman of the Charleston County Libertarian Party

The Libertarian Party has a rare opportunity in the prospect of having Bob Barr as our presidential nominee. No other candidate, past or present, possesses the leadership skills and experience, combined with true plausibility as a national candidate. I look forward to voting for Bob in Denver and campaigning for him afterwards.

-Mark Bodenhausen
Regional Chair, Libertarian Party, Alabama 1995-1999
Vice Chair, Libertarian Party, Alabama 1999-2000
Chairman Emeritus, Libertarian Party, Alabama 2000-2006
LNC Region 4 (Southeast) Representative, 2006
Libertarian Party Candidate, US Congressional District 6, Alabama 1991
Libertarian Party Candidate, Alabama Secretary of State 2000
Candidate, Birmingham City Council 2005

I served on the LNC with Bob Barr about a year and half. He’s very bright. What Barr brings as a presidential candidate is the media, a campaign staff with real experience running a third party presidential campaign , one of best fund raisers in the country, and experience campaigning and winning (something none of our other candidates can even claim). Barr has been speaking on behalf of libertarians since he’s been on the LNC. He understands libertarianism.

-Hardy Macia
Former Libertarian Party State Secretary, Vermont
Founder and former Chair, Town of Grand Isle Libertarian Party
Former Gubernatorial Candidate, Vermont
LNC, Region 7 Representative

I urge the delegates to support Bob Barr.  For candidates seeking opportunities to win local elections, having a well-known Libertarian like Bob Barr at the top of the ticket will help them win those elections.

I hope the delegates take a good hard look at who has the ability to bring positive notoriety to the Party and our candidates.  While a good Libertarian Presidential candidate may not be the reason that local candidates win, a bad candidate who may bring negative attention to the party can keep a good local candidate from winning.

Bob Barr has the ability to grow our party and bring positive attention to our nation’s entire slate of local candidates.

 -Brad Klopfenstein
Former Executive Director, Libertarian Party of Indiana
Member, Indianapolis Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals

Many of the declared candidates for the Libertarian Party nomination would surely do an exemplary job of representing Libertarian principles in this year’s presidential campaign. But only one of these candidates, Bob Barr, has the experience, name-recognition, media savvy and political skills to break through the mainstream media’s censorship of third-party campaigns.

With Bob Barr at the top of the LP’s ticket, Libertarians of all stripes, running for office at all levels, will benefit from the publicity that his campaign generates. Libertarian Bob Barr offers us an unprecedented opportunity to break out of anonymity and become a recognized political force in America.

New York Author Endorses Libertarian for President

Author of the children’s book Father Like A Tree, Matthew S. Field Announces Support for Libertarian Bob Barr for President of the United States

Warwick, NY (PRWEB) May 18, 2008 — Businessman, publisher, and children’s book author, Matthew S. Field, announced his endorsement of likely Libertarian Party nominee Bob Barr for the President of the United States.

In a statement, Field said about the former U.S. Congressman from Georgia, “Bob Barr offers an alternative to the other parties’ presumptive candidates who seem to want only to remove parents’ ability to make decisions for their own families in lieu of expanding federal programs and to trade dollars and lives to support a war in the Middle East rather than implement sound domestic energy and economic policies. A man of principle and character, Candidate Barr provides hope for a brighter future.”

“In the children’s books I have written, I have included discrete references to both personal responsibility and individual liberty,” adds Field. “Just as I have tried to positively influence my young readers’ expectations for themselves and for their communities,” continues Field, “I believe Bob Barr will provide the leadership to affect such a transformation among all Americans.”

The author of Father Like A Tree (2005) and The Three Pigs, Business School, and Wolfe Hash Stew (2007), Matthew S. Field will appear at the Warwick Children’s Book Festival to benefit the Albert Wisner Library on Sunday, September 7, 2008.

If nominated at the Libertarian Party National Convention later this month, Bob Barr would become the tenth presidential candidate since the Libertarian Party’s inception in 1971. The Libertarian Party is the third-largest political party in the United States.
