McCain’s bipolar actions

October 2nd, 2008 by Jason Pye

During the Reason counter-debate, Bob pointed out Sen. John McCain’s hypocrisy because he rails against earmarks, only a small fraction of the budget, but he just voted for a more than $700 billion bailout for Wall Street. Something isn’t right with that picture.

Here is a statement sent from the campaign on McCain’s bipolar actions.

Sen. John McCain claims he can provide leadership, but he panicked in the face of cries that the sky is falling from Wall Street investors who made bad investments, and the taxpayers are going to pay over $700 billion for his lack of leadership,” says Libertarian Party Presidential Nominee Bob Barr.

“Sen. McCain claims he will change Washington by eliminating ‘earmarks’, but he just voted for more than $103 billion dollars of bold-faced earmarks,” says Barr.

“Sen. McCain claims he will change the way things are done in Washington, but he railroaded a $700 billion Wall Street bailout through the Senate with no study or debate, no alternative and no special interest left behind,” Barr continues.

“Sen. McCain claims he can act in a bipartisan manner, but his actions on the Wall Street bailout bill shows he acts in a bipolar manner,” says Barr.

I posted the comments below this morning at another blog thread here before I was wide awake so I am posting them here again where they more properly belong:

I just saw Bob’s press release on John McCain - bipolar, not bipartisan.

I expected Barack Obama to vote for the bill - it is consistent with his beliefs and voting record.

John McCain is all over the map with every issue/he seems to have no consistent beliefs or guiding principles. How he was selected to run under the Republican standard is beyond me.

He rails against earmarks and then voted for this bill filled with another billion dollars of extra goodies without so much as a peep. Not a word.

McCain of all the candidates the GOP could have run just shows every day that Republicans and Democrats are just two sides of the same old coin.

There is no choice between the two Parties for the American people.

Bob is running at the right time. The American people need a leader now and Bob is stepping right up to the plate!

Look at how quickly the number of supporters and donors are increasing! We have over 9300 donors now.

We need to keep working every day for the next 4 weeks - reaching out to continue to find new supporters and donors and encouraging people in states where early voting is underway to vote for Bob NOW.

It’s completely outrageous what they are trying to do to America. President Bush’s administration put together this bailout package…it was Three (3) pages long. Last night the Senate passed this bailout package…it was Four Hundred and Fifty One (451) pages long! That’s Four Hundred and Forty Eight (448) pages of PORK SPENDING EARMARKS. We were supposed to be bailing out Wall Street…not the socialist program ACORN, and every other Senator’s brother-in-law’s nephew’s pet project! We should lock the doors to the Capital Building from the outside while Congress is in session, set up a high security quarantine, and not let those crooks out or any food or water in until they decide to do their frigging jobs properly instead of robbing us blind!

Today, I sent the following e-mail to Sen. McCain’s office, before I had chance to read the above article. A lot of us are starting to see how hipocritical the main 2 parties are.

I agree with Laurie, that McCain is saying anything, to whatever group, just to get elected.

    “Senator,
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t you the one who said, I will “veto any piece of Pork” in a bill if I am President? Was that you or am I thinking wrong?

So, I guess it is OK to do it to the American people, before you are President. It is OK to burden the American taxpayer with $150 Billion-Piece of Pork on an already corrupt bailout of Wall Street. “

I propose something like “Project Punish Capitol Hill” whereby a set of fast-moving volunteers searches CSPAN, youtube, Thomas.gov, and any other relevant sources for precise quotations from the pushers of EESA (to begin work immediately) followed by another set of grassroots organisers to disseminate this information to opposition campaigns, blogs, chatrooms, media outlets (if they’re worth anything), public meetings, and so on.

For my part, I’m thinking of placing a plywood banner on my front lawn with the words “Obama and McCain VOTED Against US! Throw them OUT!”

Perhaps better connected supporters of justice could use the data compiled by “Project Punish Capitol Hill” as incentive for others to bring indictments against FNMA or other corrupt institutions and their supporters in Congress.

In particular, Senator Reid who used false statements about failing Insurance Giants to defraud fellow Senators into voting for EESA. Is that not a crime?

Naturally, all of these slippery eels would counter with “we didn’t say it would work fast” or some other dodge. My response?

“You warned us the world would end, you told us to act without thinking, you promised the whole globe, and NOW YOU’RE BEING HELD TO YOUR OWN STANDARDS!”

Good letter to McCain/he has looked us in the eye and promised over and over and over again to veto every single piece of pork. I think at the debate he even took his pen out to emphasize the point.

He had an opportunity to stand up and say he’d vote for the bailout if they took the pork out.

    But he didn’t.

He didn’t show any leadership or courage or for that matter judgment.

I hope Bob makes a point of reminding McCain what he promised the American people over and over (Mr Absolute Truth as he calls himself) and what he did in his first opportunity to speak up.

Randy: you should create another flyer about did your Senator or Representative tell you these things were in the bailout bill for which he (she) voted? And then list as many of the other billion dollars worth of items which have nothing to do with the financial ‘rescue’!

This should help any Libertarian candidates down the ticket as well as bob and Wayne!

The actual “Wall Street Bailout” part of the bill ends on page 113. Page 114 to page 451 is nothing but needless earmarks. So John “I’ll Veto Every Earmark” McCain is now saying it’s OK to vote Yes for over 300 pages of earmarks. Thank you McCain for proving what I’ve been saying about you for months. You can’t be a solution to a problem when you are part of the cause!

You are the bipolar hypocrite - you fought against *** and ******* rights - that is gai and lezbiane (since you ban those words on your site). But surprisingly the word ***** is just fine.

Queerunity…if you haven’t noticed, if you want to know what the words say under the stars just put your mouse over the word, they dont sensor to the point that you cannot find out what it says. Some words get starred out that even we cannot figure out why. It has nothing to do with your belief system about **** and lesbians and rights for both, in the Libertarian party sexual orientation becomes and individual right of that person, not to be legislated by an elected official. there should be no regulation of YOUR personal moral beliefs and if you were to lighten up a little bit and read a little more from the Libertarian Party website, you would know that.

It states: “While Libertarians hold many different views on the issue of *** marriage, with some believing marriage, both straight and ***, should not be an issue for government and others believing that *** marriage should be recognized so long as straight marriage is recognized–Libertarians believe “government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships.”"

I think your getting worked up for absolutly nothing

Not to blow any horns here…. I am taking the day off tomorrow to write to every politician possible in Washington stating that I am appalled not only that they are pushing ANOTHER BAIL OUT (rescue) AND adding insult to injury by tacking on MORE PORK to an already rediculous sum of $$, which by the way was a number pulled out of their asses. Do they not see that by diluting our already weakening dollar with another trillion (we’ll worry about that later…just speed up the presses, they say) only affords exacerbates the OTHER problem? WHo the hell do they think they are!

Read how the bill will help an arrow company. sheesh…plain garbage. When I was in high school, if I turned in a paper that was as crappy as this bill, I’d have failed and been held back. Both parties have failed me. I’m voting them out.

Flip-flopping and doing one thing while saying another is just plain politics. Mr. Barr, you’d better get used to it.

I have many family members who are medically diagnosed bi-polar, one of which committed suicide. Every single other one tried to kill themselves at some point.

Using a serious mental health issue to advance whatever cause you have is disgusting. You’ve lost my vote.

Offended if using a term like that to describe what is actually going on offends you to the point that you’re willing to vote for one of the other 2, then your belief/values system needs an overhaul and you weren’t really a supporter of Mr. Barr to begin with.

While I feel for your relatives situations, there is no way possible for somebody to make a statement that is going to please everybody….which is what McCain and Obama try to do on every sound bite and interview the make.
