State Department News Service?
September 17th, 2008 by Jason PyeCheck this out. Notice anything about it? It’s a State Department website. Why in the hell are taxpayers footing the bill for a news service? Between CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, CBS, ABC and the multitude of blogs and internet source, what possible justification does the State Department have for taxpayer funded news service?

It looks like that site is intended to report on American life for international consumption.
The article you linked to stated that voters would still be able to write-in McBama. Isn’t that a fallacy? Isn’t Texas a state that requires valid write-in candidate options to be registered in advance?

My Comment:

“If the court rules that McCain and Obama did not meet the state’s requirements for listing their names, Texans would still be able to vote for them – by writing in their names on the ballot.”
Semi-False - They can feel free to write in whoever they want - only those candidates who have filed as “write-in candidates” will have their votes counted.
“Throughout the election season, Barr has polled in the single digits. ”
FALSE - in some states he has yet to break double digits, but in many states he has peeked above 10% (double digits) at least once.
And there isn’t even a tag for Bob Barr? He’s just tagged as a “third party candidate”? How are the ‘minor’ parties supposed to make gains with treatment like this?
And from a State website at that. Where’s Bob’s “equal treatment”?
“”"
I also wrote a letter using their “Feedback form” - chastising them for framing the Presidential Race as “McCain or Obama”, when it is not a State function to elevate them above the other candidates.

I thought this site was totally biased-on the left there is a list of main stories with Obama, McCain and Hilary’s names in big bold print-doesn’t that violate some fairness doctrine??? I also don’t like that a government site asked for my name and email address in order to exercise my free speech rights. Government controlled media-what can we expect next??

I’ll give them this much, at least they published the story, and weren’t condescending or particularly misleading. (It’s quite accurate to say that Mr. Barr is polling in the single digits.) But it’s still a ridiculous way to spend my tax dollars. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the link to request my refund.

WOW.. theres a few things I’d like to say on this reply string….
Allyson, I went to the Obama and McCain sites to start putting posts up about Bob in rebuttal to their ‘followers’ comments, both of the sites did the same thing. Asked me to register email address etc, before I could even post anything.
State Department News Service??? Um, does anyone remember Radio Moscow???
Ok, only had a couple of things to post. Just got in from work, catch everybody later.

By the way, on my Myspace page, there are some videos that you’re more than welcome to copy and send to your friends. Each video has a small caption above it for a description.

Those of you that havent done so, please do the following 3 things that will hopefully help get the word out that we want bob Barr included in the upcoming Presidential Debates. It’s time that they change the ‘qualifications’ to include candidates that are on enough State ballots to win the election. Not just the 2 biggest and most popular political parties.
Sign the debate petition found at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/presidential_debates/ All you need to do is put your name (unless you choose to remain Anonymous) and email address, then click on the submit button.
The next thing is to go to this link http://www.lpgeorgia.com/opendebates.php and put your name and email address on a pre typed, professional letter that will be sent to approximately 90 individuals involved in the planning of the debates. Along with copies being sent to the McBama campaigns.
The last thing is to call the Commission on Presidential Debates and state your desire to have the REAL voice of America be heard. The idea is to flood their offices with so many calls that they will have to know that ‘We the People’ are tired of the status quo. The number is (202) 872-1020
