Here is video of Bob on CNN’s American Morning this morning. It starts as a discussion about Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Convention. Hey Bob,
You say more in a short sound bite, and make more sense, than anyone I’ve ever heard. That is a gift, and it is refreshing to hear plain talk and common sense!

Way to go Bob! Probably the best CNN interview to date. He’s finally getting recognized as true competition for McBama and not just a “third-party spoiler.” I like that it was presented as a real possibility that Bob could pull votes from the disgruntled Hillary camp. Also interesting is that poll showing 17% of voters believe neither McCain or Obama has what it takes to solve the country’s problems. With Bob polling at 6%, that gives us 11% of voters who may be easily swayed to vote for Bob Barr. I’m just amazed that Kiran came right out and asked about why that 17% should vote for him, without even hinting at any spoiler comments. Now I’m really looking forward to see how the hour with Glenn Beck will turn out!

I just got this message from my local Meet-Up Group:

Presidential candidate Bob Barr will be in Columbus, OH on Saturday and is hosting a cookout for all of his friends and supporters.

The cost is $25 a plate. (For a point of reference Obama and McCain charge $500 to $2000 a plate at their fundraisers)

We are also still in need of some volunteers to run the cookout, man a booth from 12:00 to 5:00, and we even still need one more driver to get Bob and his crew to and from the airport.

    When: August 30, 2008 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

What’s also interesting is that Bob is easily beating other third party candidates Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader. A new poll has Bob at 4% while McKinney and Nader are at 1% each. (On link above). That means that the limited government view, is beating the Socialist side two to one.

That, in an of itself is a huge victory for us Libertarians. Sure, we want to beat McCain and Obama. But I’ll be realy happy on Election Day if Barr/Root beats both Nader and McKinney.

“I’m the only candidate within the 3 of us…” Great use of language, Bob. By using phrases like that you position yourself as one of the “Big 3″ in the minds of voters.

If you’re in politics and haven’t read “Positioning: The Battle For Your Mind” By Ries and Trout, you’ll never be a household name.

this interview is fine and good, but Bob Barr is very mistaken if he thinks that disenchanted Hillary Supporters would not go for Bob Barr. Large numbers of the blue collar Hillary Supporters in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other states could definitely be courted by the likes of Barr. The values held by many of these people are actually best represented by the likes of Barr. I know many of them and the things they want are very much in line with Libertarian principles. Seeds can be planted here, and the opportunity is passing by…

Also take note the 17% of the Hillary Supporters that claim that they will vote for neither Obama or McCain. Most certainly a percentage of them are viable ground for new Barr support..

I think that Barr needed to be in Denver, as his campaign and outreach needs to confront the 2 party monopoly head on. The two-party monster is what suppresses 3rd parties at every turn. He needs to be aggressive and make news in this respect.

I really, really hope that he is going to be in the twin cities next week. I think it would be a strategic blunder (nicer than saying incredibly stupid) not to be in the thick of the Republican and Ron Paul conventions, as both will have people looking for an option. RFTR is tailor-made for Barr, and McCain may be offering Barr with a gift if he picks Ridge, Guliani, or Lieberman (and even to a smaller extent, Romney) as his VP.

Think out of the box and be aggressive.

  8. James R. Says:

Stephen, I agree. Some of the disenchanted Hillary supporters may be open to looking at Barr.

I also agree that Bob should go to the Rally if only to man the LP booth for a few hours. When I lived in Denver I’d man the LP booth at fairs and there were always active candidates there pitching in and meeting the masses.

This was a very good interview and he was treated very respectfully as the serious candidate he is!

I also believe he represents a real choice for the Hillary supporters who just can’t bear to vote for John McCain (most of them don’t want to put our country and their own families through 4 more years of Bush policies and the war in Iraq).

Outreach to Hillary supporters might prove very effective. Perhaps HQ can do it through groups still devoted to Hillary and the rest of us can do it through her blog at her website, other blogs where we go and person-to-person with people we know.

It seems as if there is just one opportunity after another opening up for the campaign right now.

Please continue to donate whatever you can regularly and please continue to bring in at least one new supporter and donor every day.

Bob is one of the most eloquent, articulate speakers on the political front that I have heard in years. He gets to the point in small sound bytes. I’m so impressed.

He also did a great job on the Colbert interview.

So many voters go for form over substance - Bob is in great form. As to substance, I sure hope he can be in the debates.

The good news for us is that the first debate is the Google/You Tube debate, and that only requires 10% in three polls, IIRC. We’re there and beyond in two states already, and about 1/2 way there nationally. W00t!
