Penn Jillette on Bloomberg TV
July 31st, 2008 by Jason PyeThis is kind of off topic from the campaign, but Penn Jillette will be on Bloomberg TV tonight at 10pm on the show, Night Talk. Be sure to check your local listings for more information.
Many of you may know Penn as the louder half of Penn & Teller. Penn is also a libertarian and supporter of the Libertarian Party.

Could the Barr campiagn get Penn Jillette to campaign with him? Or what about Clint Eastwood, Drew Carey or Tom Selleck? They all are Libertarians.

Libertarians are good peoples.
Surely Tommy Chong is Libertarian. Is he big-L or small-L?

Raymond,
good point. where are these guys? This election has such abysmal candidates from the major two parties that this is a PRIME opportunity for something like the Barr campaign.

Penn, by his own admition, wouldn’t do Barr any good by endorsing him. He will likely vote for Barr, but thinks he would do more harm than good by campaigning for him.

Today Ron Paul announced that Jesse Ventura would be speaking at the Rally For The Republic. Why isn’t Bob Barr scheduled? Will someone (staff) answer my question?

I wrote a US Mail letter to Tom Selleck a while back to try and get an endorsement for Ron Paul. He never even wrote back. I’m not sure about Clint Eastwood anymore, some stuff I’ve read by him indicates he’s been slightly Hollywood-ized.

Drew Carey officially endorsed Ron Paul. Could it be that Bob Barr’s past is keeping repelling endorsements by well-known libertarians?

Hi James R,
you raise a key question, especially considering, in my opinion, the fact that Jesse really blew a major opportunity to get a foothold for 3rd parties with the way that his governorship unfolded. Jesse’s got the right views, but the execution wasn’t so hot.
that being said, I do wonder why Ron Paul invited Venture and not Barr, when Barr is supposed to be a friend of Ron’s. I really hope that there is some diligent outreach to Ron for an appearance at this convention. Barr deserves to be there for sure if Ventura is there.
I also wonder about some of the hollywood libertartians.
Even Hillary Clinton’s generals have closed ranks behind Obama, and Republicans that despise McCain have gotten behind him as well. You’d think the top libertarians would really step forward given that this election is the best opportunity yet for advancing LP goals.
this is one area that is bothering me a little, and it has more to do with others than with Bob as he is pushing hard.

Penn and Teller did a cool flag-burning trick on an episode of West Wing. Our reaction to that trick distinguishes the Republican populist panderer from the liberty-loving libertarian.
What was Barr’s reaction? What was Barr’s vote on various attempts to introduce an amendement to turn my flag into a mattress tag?

Do we know that Bob was not invited to the Rally for the Republic? Has he expressed any desire to be there?

In fact, here’s Penn Jillette on Bob Barr:

The closing remark about fear and hate was good. Could turn that into a tagline.
