Bloggers call with Bob Barr
July 18th, 2008 by Jason PyeOn Thursday afternoon, Bob Barr 2008 held its first bloggers conference call. Ed Morrissey from Hot Air and Jazz Shaw from The Moderate Voice both have a recap of the call at their respective blogs.
Here is an excerpt from Hot Air:
I asked him what he hoped to accomplish in his run. Barr replied that he felt that politics had become overwhelmingly sour; 86% now say the country is on the wrong track. People recognize that the current system does not serve them well, and that provides “fertile ground” for a new party. That’s just an opportunity, of course, but the Libertarian Party has matured, and with himself as a credible candidate, they have a chance of winning in a three-way race.
Another reason: he wants to free America from the artificial restraints of the two-party system. Also, he wants to recast the current issues in a manner more consistent with the Constitution. FISA reform is one area that Barr wants discussed in real, substantive terms, and not just slogans. Eliminating earmarks will not dismantle Leviathan, and we need to grasp the realities of a $3.1 trillion budget.
[...]
Barr says that he would follow the path of the Grace Commission in reducing the costs of government and eliminating abuse. He would clearly identify the cost-benefit and Constitutional standing of every department in the federal government, and anything that didn’t pass muster would get axed. DoE would probably be at the top of the list for closure. Department of Commerce would be next, followed by most of the Department of Energy.

John, not everybody thinks that the medical history of Barr’s former wife is an election issue.
I’ll have to read these interviews — it looks like there’s a lot of meat to them.

John is a chronic blogger at thirdpartywatch.com where he constantly attacks Barr. He has this obsession with this abortion check and brings it up everyday. He is a Baldwin supporter who believes that christianity plays a major role in government.

John,
Much of our knowledge is gained through a process of trial and error. One’s current position may not have always been their position and could change at some point in the future. It may have been that at one time Mr. Barr made a mistake. He learned from said mistake and has since changed his stance on that issue.
Did you do anything wrong, dumb, illegal, etc when you were younger? Did you learn from it? Do you still do it? I’ll assume the answers are yes, no, no.

Bob Barr is the man for president.
The McBamas will destroy this country with two words.
“GLOBAL WARMING”
Wait until you see the taxes we will all pay
Carbon footprint my foot.
But, don’t worry because you will most likely be unemployed
Your biggest problem will be buying gas, keeping warm indoors and eating.
The McBamas must be stopped.
No patriot would destroy this country like McBama.
We need oil….Where is it?
Ask the Speaker of the House..Oh yeah, RECESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without the order to drill.
They will kill every business, even the green ones, when they can’t afford the shipping costs to get foods delivered from organic farms, can’t use plastic to wrap and protect nearly every product made and have to watch the working poor choose between going to work, feeding their family or heating their home.
Look what the McBamas did with ethanol. They want you to drive your car with corn (one of the main food staples of the world.) So, without any positive effect on the price of gas, they have increased the cost of our food. Nice job. And, we pay them very, very well.
It’s our fault. We hired them.
So please Bob
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Lowell, It sounds like you’re the one with the obsession. You talk the talk, even use the right words…but like any 5th column plant, all you do is sow discord.
It’s obvious that you don’t support Bob Barr. we get it. But if you want to have any real effect, don’t try to defile the believers among us, go to Obama’s blog (where there is a mutiny in progress) and spread your rumors over there.
It may prevent some of those panty-waisted non-producing nanny staters from defecting to the LP.

Jonathan: “John is a chronic blogger at thirdpartywatch.com where he constantly attacks Barr. He has this obsession with this abortion check and brings it up everyday. He is a Baldwin supporter who believes that christianity plays a major role in government.”
John Lowell: “Most charitable, Ryan. We’d have to buy you a Mass card from the Legionaires Of Christ if it weren’t for the fact that most of what you offer here is rank speculation. The facts are a little less forgiving, however. The abortion is said to have occurred in 1983, at a time Barr was hardly young.”
LMAO…Oh, this is rich…LMAO…an accused Christian (offering nothing but rank speculation and unsubstantiated rumors) who behaves as if the blood of Christ does NOT, in fact, wash away all our sins. Even if we’ve “learned from our mistakes” and moved on. Now we KNOW you’re just a 5th column plant.

Dear friend,
I urgently need your help.
I’m in Charleston, West Virginia attempting to get Bob Barr on the ballot. When I arrived early Wednesday morning, I didn’t think it would be possible, but I had to give it a shot.
We’re headed toward 48 state ballot access. Only West Virginia and Oklahoma are problems. However, there is hope in Oklahoma as we have just filed a lawsuit to get Bob Barr and Wayne Root on the ballot there.
If we win that case, only West Virginia will stand in our way of 50 state ballot access - an apex of achievement for a third-party candidate and something the media cannot ignore.
But here’s my problem.
There is no active Libertarian Party in West Virginia and a very limited pool of volunteers.
I have had to bring in out-of-state petitioners from across the nation to get this drive done.
So far I have 13 petitioners on the ground and another nine on their way.
I didn’t think we would have the manpower to get the drive done, but now I think it’s a possibility. I have enough petitioners in the state and on their way to collect enough signatures by our August 1st deadline.
But I won’t have the money to finish the drive if I don’t raise $43,000 by close of business on Monday.
Russ Verney, our campaign manager, wrote to me this morning and instructed me to shut down the drive if I cannot raise the funds by COB Monday.
So far this month, we’re raised less than $100,000. We’re even off pace from our June fundraising totals.
The campaign cannot afford this ballot drive as I write this. We would have to choose between basic campaign operations or the possibility of 50 state ballot access.
Russ has to make a tough call on this drive but he did give me 96 hours to raise the funds to continue the effort.
I ask that you keep this drive alive by helping me raise $43,000 by close of business on Monday.
Please make an emergency donation to fund the West Virginia ballot access drive right now. Please give generously by clicking here.
My friend, I’ve only been in this state for a few days and we need to be on the ballot here.
When I arrived in West Virginia it was 2:30 in the morning. I pulled into a hotel parking lot and a restaurant owner and one of her patrons were standing outside smoking a cigarette.
They didn’t look too happy.
As it turns out, just a few weeks earlier the county had banned smoking in all “enclosed workplaces” including bars and restaurants.
I’m not a smoker, but it’s the property owner’s decision to allow or disallow smoking on their premises - it is not a county bureaucrats’ decision.
When I explained libertarian philosophy to them and told them about our candidate Bob Barr, their eyes lit up.
They did not know that there is an alternative to the two-party system. They didn’t know that there is a party that respects an individual’s rights and personal decisions.
Since then, I’ve talked to many more folks in this state and the same holds true. We need to give West Virginians a better choice and the only way to do that is to get Bob Barr on the ballot.
Please donate today and help me keep this drive alive. I have two weeks left to pull it off and I sincerely need your support.
A gift of $50, $100, $250 or more would be a significant help. If you can’t give $50, give $5 or $10. Every dollar gets us one step closer to getting a pro-liberty candidate on the ballot in what could be our final ballot access hurdle.
Thank you for all that you do.
In Liberty,
Shane Cory
