Barr in NH on 7/22
July 18th, 2008 by Jason PyeBob will make his first campaign visit to New Hampshire on Tuesday, July 22nd:
Former congressman and Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr will be making his first official campaign visit to New Hampshire on Tuesday, July 22. He will spend the day giving interviews and talking with fellow candidates. At 8:00pm there will be a meet and greet event at Murphy’s Taproom, 494 Elm St., Manchester.
“The momentum for Bob’s campaign is really growing,” said LPNH chairman Brendan Kelly. “He’s polling at 10% without any yard signs and he hasn’t even been here yet.” The Barr campaign scheduled the NH trip after the latest Zogby poll was released showing Barr’s support at 10%, the highest level of any state.
We hope to see you there!

sounds great, he should pay them several visits between now and November. I hope he is holding a fundraiser there.
July 18th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
10% in NH, GA, Alaska and solid in several other states. Great job by the staff, keep up the great work!
July 18th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
10% without yard signs… But most people still don’t even know who Bob is. If we don’t start hitting them with advertising of some kind very soon, it’ll be too late. We need signs out ASAP. Is there going to be any other way of getting signs, aside from buying them ourselves from the campaign store? It seems like the Libertarian Party ought to be helping to get this put together–We need to do what every other campaign does and have campaign materials sent to volunteers at no cost. I’ve said it before: I will go myself and cover my entire county with signs if there’s some way for me to pick them up for free… Seriously.

no such thing as Free Stephen. You are in the Libertarian Party, not the Green Party. But you must think outside the box. Join a meetup group, take up a collection, throw a car wash. Make a sign sign saying proceeds of the car wash will go to Barr/Root and then use this money to buy signs. Outside the box my man. Capitalism at its best

how is bob doing in arizona?
July 18th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Dear friend,
I urgently need your help.
I’m in Charleston, West Virginia attempting to get Bob Barr on the ballot. When I arrived early Wednesday morning, I didn’t think it would be possible, but I had to give it a shot.
We’re headed toward 48 state ballot access. Only West Virginia and Oklahoma are problems. However, there is hope in Oklahoma as we have just filed a lawsuit to get Bob Barr and Wayne Root on the ballot there.
If we win that case, only West Virginia will stand in our way of 50 state ballot access - an apex of achievement for a third-party candidate and something the media cannot ignore.
But here’s my problem.
There is no active Libertarian Party in West Virginia and a very limited pool of volunteers.
I have had to bring in out-of-state petitioners from across the nation to get this drive done.
So far I have 13 petitioners on the ground and another nine on their way.
I didn’t think we would have the manpower to get the drive done, but now I think it’s a possibility. I have enough petitioners in the state and on their way to collect enough signatures by our August 1st deadline.
But I won’t have the money to finish the drive if I don’t raise $43,000 by close of business on Monday.
Russ Verney, our campaign manager, wrote to me this morning and instructed me to shut down the drive if I cannot raise the funds by COB Monday.
So far this month, we’re raised less than $100,000. We’re even off pace from our June fundraising totals.
The campaign cannot afford this ballot drive as I write this. We would have to choose between basic campaign operations or the possibility of 50 state ballot access.
Russ has to make a tough call on this drive but he did give me 96 hours to raise the funds to continue the effort.
I ask that you keep this drive alive by helping me raise $43,000 by close of business on Monday.
Please make an emergency donation to fund the West Virginia ballot access drive right now. Please give generously by clicking here.
My friend, I’ve only been in this state for a few days and we need to be on the ballot here.
When I arrived in West Virginia it was 2:30 in the morning. I pulled into a hotel parking lot and a restaurant owner and one of her patrons were standing outside smoking a cigarette.
They didn’t look too happy.
As it turns out, just a few weeks earlier the county had banned smoking in all “enclosed workplaces” including bars and restaurants.
I’m not a smoker, but it’s the property owner’s decision to allow or disallow smoking on their premises - it is not a county bureaucrats’ decision.
When I explained libertarian philosophy to them and told them about our candidate Bob Barr, their eyes lit up.
They did not know that there is an alternative to the two-party system. They didn’t know that there is a party that respects an individual’s rights and personal decisions.
Since then, I’ve talked to many more folks in this state and the same holds true. We need to give West Virginians a better choice and the only way to do that is to get Bob Barr on the ballot.
Please donate today and help me keep this drive alive. I have two weeks left to pull it off and I sincerely need your support.
A gift of $50, $100, $250 or more would be a significant help. If you can’t give $50, give $5 or $10. Every dollar gets us one step closer to getting a pro-liberty candidate on the ballot in what could be our final ballot access hurdle.
Thank you for all that you do.
In Liberty,
Shane Cory

You have flip flopped on global warming, I can no longer support you as a candidate. There is no convincing evidence that humans are a significant cause of global warming and it has been cooling since 1998. Until you get back on the right position on global warming, good riddance.

I think he should hit the global warming think hard. Offer an alternative to govt carbo taxes. The GOP basically just denies it exsistence. There are real conservatives who think global warming is real and want free market solutions. If Barr and Gore start a working alliance to help that is good for the Libertarian party.
Read Bob’s statement. Sounds like the right idea to me.

Chase: From what I read Bob also stated that the cause of global warming is unknown (not that there is “convincing evidence that humans are a significant cause” as your comment implies), and that McBama needed to not simply accept the international push to vilify the American people (and destroy our economy) with this knee-jerk “Cap & Trade” proposal.
Oh and, since I don’t recall him taking a prior position on global warming, where’s the flip flop?
July 19th, 2008 at 8:26 am
Its not the presidents job to save us from global warming, it his job to command the miltary and to have the power of veto… that is it
our representive to the world.
We need a president that will keep his own opinions and believes in check and use the consitutition as a guide.
Limited goverment you want save the world start a non-profit and organize.
We have goverment in global warming issue, spending billions of taxpayer money on hydrogen technology… when scientiest alreadly know hydrogen car’s will never exist. Its a shame… goverment does fix itself.
You want healthcare for all… get the federal goverment out of healthcare…. the federal goverment has no right to dictact to the states. Your state can figure it out and fund it.

That is the flip-flp.

Thanks John. I remember that now.
I have a feeling he may have been implying that human-caused global warming was the myth in the Glenn Beck example. Either way I get the impression that this Al Gore thing was a bit of a publicity stunt. Remember when some of you were calling for the campaign to try to make news? Seems to me like that may be what they were going for.
July 19th, 2008 at 11:05 am
…to add to that… since McCain and Obama both support Cap & Trade… I get the impression that this was an attempt to add a different perspective to debate, and maybe some of you are reading a bit too much into it. Who knows, though, I’m just as much of a bystander as the next guy.
July 19th, 2008 at 11:47 am
I believe that global warming is happening. However, the best science from the UN says that it will be impossible to stop. So why cripple the world economy trying? The libertarian approach to this is to make the US and world economy stronger so that we can adapt to global warming. See this reason Mag article:
http://www.reason.com/news/show/127279.html
In the long term, technology will eventually bring us less carbon-intensive energy. But trying to rush technology can also be an awful waste of resources.
This could be a huge campaign issue for Bob. McBama wants cap-and-trade which will mean a giant hidden tax and/or rationing on everything energy related. Bob should demand that a constitutional amendment be passed prior to initiating such a ruinous scheme that the gov’t has no authority to do. Cap-and-trade is a waste of resources that will lower our standard of living. There’s no way it will pass the smell-test of the American people.
So Bob does need to seriously address global warming — but I don’t expect that he would endorse cap-and-trade or a carbon tax.

Has anyone called the Manchester Union or the Union Leader? Those are the two big newspapers in NH. I grew up there and know that almost everyone in the state reads them.

After former Vice President Al Gore’s “We” Campaign event at D.A.R. Constitution Hall concluded, Libertarian Party presidential nominee Bob Barr issued the following statement:
Former Vice President Al Gore and I have met privately to discuss the issue of global warming, and I was pleased and honored that he invited me to attend the “We” Campaign event. Global warming is a reality as most every organization that has studied the matter has concluded, whether conservative-leaning, liberal oriented or independent. I am, however, also aware that scientists differ on its causes, impact and remedies. I remain firmly committed to free market solutions and innovations to address this issue; not tax-driven policies.
I commend Mr. Gore for his efforts and leadership in this area, and urge Senators Obama and McCain to join me in studying, debating, and finding solutions to the problem of energy needs, consumption and effects. The American people deserve to hear all of our views and proposals on this issue and others. I am particularly pleased that Mr. Gore agrees that the public debate of this issue should include me so that the American people can make an informed choice after hearing a range of views. However, the fact that neither of the two major party candidates attended this event may indicate their unwillingness to address this important issue. Mr. McCain, for example, seems to have adopted already the internationalist approach and relying on the cumbersome and costly “cap and trade” formula and he may therefore be unwilling to engage in a real debate that would reveal how flawed that approach truly is
This is Barr’s *FULL* statement on global warming and Al Gore. Show me where in this comment he flip flops? He points out there are two sides to the debate, and that he supports market driven solutions, as opposed to government driven solutions. This site you got your information on the so called flip flop conveniently leaves off the full comment. Wonder what the motivation for the omission is? No flip flop, just a fair and reasoned response.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
that makes me feel a little better although he does believe it is a reality and that makes me feel as if he will come up with a “free market solution” that isn’t very free market at all. We will see.

We need to have some fund raising events around the country as soon as possible so as not to loose momentum in gaining at the polls. I don’t want to live in a gestapo type state with snoops looking to steal every deal they can from Americans while claiming to “believe” that one of the parties was outside the country.
http://zeitgeistmovie.com - makes plain that the existing administration is on a witch hunt for terrorists, terror here, terror there, terror everywhere. What a crock! This so called war is extortion of America, our money, our rights, our freedom - all wasted.

Great!
10% in the Free State of NH!! (www.freestateproject.org)
@Chris.. It is the Union Leader and I believe that they have been notified.
Many may remember Murphy’s Taproom… it was in many Ron Paul videos.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:45 pm
To Chris, et al, yes the Union Leader (along with every other paper) was informed. It is listed in their events section. I assume Barr’s campaign did the advance work to line up interviews. He was supposed to be on the radio here today but some scheduling got mixed up.
Now let’s just hope they bring signs and flyers and stuff with them.
July 22nd, 2008 at 7:42 pm
So I showed up at Murphy’s Taproom at 8:15, and no Bob Barr! That must have been a crazy 15 minutes! Where was he???
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:04 am
@Dan
He was there.
I left at 10pm and he was still there. Did you go in the back room?
Did you ask anyone if he was there?
Here is an article from the Union Leader:

Article says 90 people (I counted 107)
Fergus… there are lots of people gathering signatures… including some GOPers who can’t stomach McCain.
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:08 am
And article in the Concord Monitor:
http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080723/FRONTPAGE/807230305
They say 80 people.
BTW both reporter left by 9:30pm.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Man, I feel stupid. There is a backroom? Yes I did ask a couple people in the main area of the bar and they had no idea who Bob Barr even was…oh well. I hope he will be back. Now that I know there is a backroom…haha.
August 3rd, 2008 at 6:35 pm
We’re there every Taproom Tuesday, so feel free to drop in and meet freedom lovers.
