Video: Barr on CNN American Morning

July 16th, 2008 by Jason Pye

In his appearance on American Morning, Bob explained that he left the Republican Party due to their “big spending, anti-civil liberties, anti-privacy way.” He adds that the two major parties are the “same side of the same coin” and that his candidacy brings issues to the table that aren’t being discussed.

Bob also pointed out that the mortgage crisis is a result of far too much intervention by government in the market. As we noted in a press release yesterday:

Congress created programs to artificially inflate the housing market, established Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to be exempt from normal scrutiny, oversight, and competition, and expanded their activities in response to the sub-prime lending meltdown. Government must get out of the mortgage business, but must do so in a way that least harms taxpayers and the economy.

The point about the 400 million a day cost of the war being better put back in the taxpayers pocket…that money never was in the taxpayers pocket….it’s being borrowed from China and anyone else who’ll still take our credit.

I noted the date on the CNN poll written at the top of the graphic….a month old!

    Keep on hittin’ ‘em Bob!

Being of a certain age, when I was a young pup my mother used to tell me: ” You are known by the people you hang around with .” I look at the “presumptive” Republican Candidate, Senator McCain, and see the following folk around him:
I see Phil Gramm, former Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, who just called working Americans a bunch of “whiners”. This, of course, is from his own elitist outlook. As Chairman, Gramm passed the Gramm-Leach-Biley Act in 1999, and during the time period between 1995-2000 received $1,000,914 in campaign contributions from the Securiies and Investment industry. He was one of 5 co-sponsors of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, and we all know how well that works for the oil speculators. At that same time his wife, Wendy, was on the Board at Enron, but left before the scandal hit. When he left the Senate, Phil got a cushy job (where else) as VP of USB Investment Bank. Gramm was still being paid by UBS to lobby Congress about the mortgage crisis while an advisor to the McCain campaign.
    2. Carly “Chainsaw” Fiorina is the former President of Hewlett-Packard who gained fame for firing American citizens and outsourcing their jobs overseas, or on H1B Visas. Citizens have no recourse concerning these visas. A Company, according to the Dept. of Labor, can take away your job ” even when a qualified U.S. worker wants the job, and a U.S. worker can be displaced from the job in favor of a foreign worker”. Ask 1,000 people in Ocala, FLA whose jobs were outsourced recently by Nielson (the TV rating people) thru an Indian Company Tata. Carly’s most famous quote is: ” There is no job that is America’s God-given right anymore”. McCain brought Carly on board, in my opinion, to formulate his economic policy and present a softer image to get women’s votes. The day Carly left HP their stock jumped 7 points showing what a fine job people thought she did. If he wins the election, perhaps Senator McCain would consider Carly for a Cabinet position.
    3. Senators Joe Lieberman and Lindsay Graham. Both are strong supporters of a “Comprehensive Immigration Bill”. Both, including Senator McCain, voted in favor of the Hutchinson Amendment # 74 to the Omnibus Spending Act that stripped the Secure Fence Act, the double fence approved and in effect by Rep. Duncan Hunter. Of course, Senator McCain says he “gets it..secure the border first”. Elect Senator McCain and I can almost guarantee what we’ll get, but I’ll leave that to the imagination. All are for Big Business at the expense of the Middle Class. Senator Lieberman has a Bill pending, the Lieberman-Hagel Act, that would increase the ceiling for H1B visas from 65,000 per year to 180,000 per year. Visas are good for 6 years but the Government has no way to track them. Both Senators Graham and Lieberman are members of the Senate India Caucus and have dealings with the India Lobbyist USINPAC. Approximately 80% of H1B Visas are taken by Indian Companies. Senator McCain has said he wants a “Comprehensive Immigration Bill” for “God’s Children”. Believe that one and I’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. Senator McCain is President Bush squared. Today, Ice caught a McDonald’s Franchise actually obtaining and distributing phony documentation to it’s illegal workers.
We need a new Political Party, one that is not tied to Special Interests. One of our greatest Freedoms is the Freedom From Want, the right to earn a living for ourselves and our families without Government interference. That’s only one reason why we should kick out all the phonies and liars and vote for honesty and the Libertarians. Vote for Bob Barr for President!!

I think Libertarians have interesting points and definitely free market and capitalism are essentially important for society to prosper… Still. The modern corporate capitalism has more patterns of slavery and socialism now days than ever. Outsourcing, basically, destroys the balanced labor market. Corporations get easy profits from other underdeveloped countries and invest the profits again into underdeveloped countries economy, not into USA economy. That stops the innovations, hurts small domestic business. I observed the destruction of Machining industry for example. During the last 10 years there is no innovations, the employees skills is very low and no jobs within US. The equipment is old or low quality. Product quality goes down. Well… price goes down too. But actually companies with good quality just can’t survive the price competition. I personally would prefer to pay more money for better product. I don’t like Chinese quality. Recently it accrues that it could be even dangerous. But there are no US products any more. Less jobs in US, hence, more people cannot afford expensive products. It cause a trigger effect. Is it free market they are going to develop?
I also don’t like too much government regulation. I am totally with Libertarians on that. But… Let’s see… there is antitrust law for example. And it is a kind of regulation isn’t it? And if we wouldn’t have it all the small business and free market would be lost due to the monopoly. Are they going that far in stopping government regulation? Than we are not developing capitalism we are going to some mixture between slavery and socialism.
Another thing is that less jobs because of outsourcing (it is already obvious that there is less jobs) will put another pressure on the budget. How all that people will survive? Yep, on welfare. We will have to pay for it with our taxes that Barr is going to cut. Or does he going to shot them?
It is the point then free market basically destroying itself and … might be we don’t need too much government regulations but what is definitely important is to quit participation in NAFTA and WTO and start develop our own market instead of others.
