Why is the media ignoring Barr?

July 15th, 2008 by Jason Pye

The Daily Kos is saying something that I’ve been saying myself for the last few days:

Our corrupt national media, however, is completely ignoring Bob Barr.

He is absent from the network reporting of polls. He is absent from national discussions. He is absent from visual graphics.
[...]
The July 11th Zogby has Bob Barr receiving the following:

9% in New Mexico

8% in Colorado

6% in Florida

5% in Virginia

4% in North Carolina

Bob Barr is a major factor in the 2008 race, far more relevant statistically than Ralph Nader in 2000 or 2004.

Yet our corrupt assclowns in the National Media continue to ignore Barr, creating a McCain/Obama vacuum, with the occasional mention of Ralph Nader thrown in.

I know we are preaching to the choir here, but as supporters of Bob Barr, we should be writing letters to our local papers, writing members of the news media and politely ask them why they are excluding Bob Barr from their election coverage.

    Anyone watch West Wing?

JOSH: He’s taking the President’s votes. It’s as simple… He is taking the President’s votes.

AMY: Listen, I’m not indifferent to the situation, but that right there, that’s the crazy part of your argument.

    JOSH: Why?

    AMY: They’re not his votes.

    So true for Barr

Bob and the campaign needs to start making news. Thats how you get on. Like with Nader and his Obama comment. Bob should hold a big rally or something. If Bob gets into the debates then he’s set; when Anmerica hears his message of freedom then he’ll be way above the other canidates.

I brought up Barr in a family discussion and they had no idea who he was. They believe the only two candidates are McBama and O’bain. I couldn’t hold back after that point. I went all out and was very aggresive in explain who Barr is, what he stands for, and why it is naive to vote for either the Democrat or Republican candidates. I’m done being shy about it. Anyone who discusses the election with me is going to get a lecture about the liberty message and the Bob Barr candidacy!

Today I posted what I call the “Bob Barr Blackout Watch: Day 50″ in the online comments section of my local newspaper. When that news organization finally runs an article on Barr’s candidacy, I’ll thank them and move on to another local news organization.

Many local newspapers and television stations have these online comment sections on their web sites.

If you see a lack of Barr’s supporters commenting on these news sites, become the first one. And support those who are already promoting the Barr campaign.

And click on my name for a link to a list of “101 Things for Volunteers to Do” without an order from central headquarters.

Raymond: The media covers obama and mccain even when they don’t make news. Barr is simply omitted from the lavish daily coverage given to the other candidates.

I’ve been sending brief and polite emails when I see a story that omits Bob Barr. I do this particularly when the story is a “candidates on the issues” type of thing. I also plan to write letters and op-eds for my local papers. Having a more detailed “issues” section on this site would make these activities easier and more effective.

Start with Lou Dobbs. He’s always preenig about the “independents” movement he supposedly leads. Call him on it and force his hand, have Barr on the show.

The main stream media has chosen the two Candidates they want running. They don’t want any others to muss that up.

Wow, does no one else find this link too ridiculously biased to read. It comes from the DAILY KOS! They have more bias and unfairness than the national media at its worst.

I’ve seen Barr’s name in many of the polls I’ve seen on TV. And saying that Nader was ALWAYS included when talking about polls is very likely them just talking out of their asses…like most of the article.

Talk about a bunch of whiners. They have nothing compared to the blackout of Ron Paul.

Hi all, my vote will go to Bob Barr, I also watch Lou Dobbs almost every night. I just wrote him an email requesting he give Mr. Barr some air time. I’m a 14 year army and Gulf war veteran and I haven’t been as worried as I am now about the future of our country. There’s a lot of good tips on how to get the media involved on covering Bob Barr. Today I pledge to start writing to all the media I can and requesting they give Bob some air time. Time is running out and I’m not giving up, especially to this wonderful country that I served for and will continue to do so. As “N” stated, Anyone who discusses the election with me is going to get a lecture about the liberty message and the Bob Barr candidacy!!!!! I Love America!!!!!!

It would seem to me that a MSM that has been losing its monopolistic influence on the powers that be over the past few years would jump at the chance to upset to apple cart of the two party system. Imagine the power that the MSM could then wield if they pushed a third party candidate with the same vigor and enthusiasm as they push an Obama. There is no doubt in my mind that the MSM could add 10 points to Barr’s polling numbers if they even came close to the sycophantic coverage of the other two nitwits.

Im sorry, but you really shouldn’t be putting up articles with such immature wordplay as “corrupt a–clowns”, even if we agree with the message.

Remember, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

On a side note: Emails are great, but also send a snail mail letter if you can. It takes a little more effort, but it carries alot more weight.

How do we get the Bob Barr message out there?

Well people it will involve a bit of cunning on your part.

What is the biggest outlet of political news with MILLIONS of listeners?

    Talk Radio!

Rush and Sean show’s have the most influence. When their shows are on WE need to get on the air and let the people know.

If you call their show and say you are supporting Bob Barr they won’t let you on so you will have to say you are an undecided voter to trick them to let you on the air.

Sean Hannitey’s show keeps bringing up the point that both canidates have bad stuff and that we have to vote for McCain the lesser of two evils. The point has to be made that Bob Barr is the solution for this dilema. He has to be made the only choice to make when the media is trying to make you vote for the lesser of two evils.

I hope Bob Barr joins with some of the efforts of Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty (CL). Hey, even Chuck Baldwin the Constitutional Party Candidate was at its most recent rally in DC. Why not Barr in St Paul, Minnesota come September 2nd?

THE MEDIA IS IGNORING BARR BECAUSE HE IS THE 44TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THEY ARE SCARED. THEY ARE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY THE ROCKEFELLER REPUBLICRATS AND THE TRUMAN DEMOCRATS; SO IT IS OF NO SURPRISE THAT THEY WILL CONTINUE TO IGNORE BOB BARR UNTIL HE IS LEADING IN THE NATIONAL POLLS IN MID TO LATE SEPTEMBER. I STILL LOVE THEM THOUGH AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN THEY ACTUALLY START REPORTING THE NEWS AGAIN. REST IN PEACE, TIME RUSSERT.

I just had an idea. Why doesn’t the Barr campaign come up with their own poll questions, to see how people might respond to his message. I would expect the results to be positive, then Barr can mention this every chance he gets, to prove his candidacy should get more coverage.

In search of a party. Seeked out Bob Barr’s website today, liked alot of what I seen. I find him a little weak kneed with defense but not intolerable. The media is criminal the way they are choosing our candidates. Talk up Obama and villify Clinton, the same with McCain and Romney.
I’m not going to hold my nose this year and vote McCain, nor will I vote the lesser of two evils. Been there done that. I will do some more research but Bob Barr is looking pretty good so far. I don’t know his stance on amnesty yet, cause that’s a deal breaker.

  23. Sandy Rossi Says:

Except for Glenn Beck, conservative talk radio, will not have Barr on because they are set on the two party system. In my opinion Barr needs to do three things.
    1) Focus on three states where he can make a difference and spend 90 percent of his time and resources in those states (local TV, radio, rallies). His high numbers in these states, states that the other two candidates need will automatically grant him national news.
    2) Tap into Ron Paul’s internet connections and magic.
    3) SMILE and act more personable when he does get the opportunity.
Ross Perot had charisma. The major talks shows wanted him on for ratings. He was entertaining. Unfortunately in this dumbed down election process, this is what the majority of voters want. Bob Barr looks like a guy you would want in the foxhole with you but probably not go out for a beer with.

I’d love to hear/see Bob Barr take on Michael Medved, who misses no chance to call the LP “Losertarians.” If Barr can make Medved look good while setting him and his audience straight, he may score a big coup. The soundbites alone from a victorious Barr segment on Medved’s show would be great for publicity. Hey, if Barr could change HIS mind and embrace Libertarianism, perhaps Medved’s mind can at least be opened toward Libertarian candidates.

  27. J. Says:

There is massive resentment towards the political elite here in WV. Barr could win WV, simply by providing an alternative to Obama and McCain, and spending a little time in the State. The Libertarian message has been resonating with the voters here, and Barr’s appearance on Glenn Beck actually has people asking me for bumper stickers! I have never seen so much support for the Libertarian Candidate, and I was a petitioner in 15 states for Badnarik’s campaign.

  28. Eric Says:

We have to BREAK into these Talk Radio shows. If they are going to treat us dirty and NEVER let us speak then we need to use whatever means of deception to get onto their shows to get the word out.

Use different phones each time as they will block your number.

I don’t like doing this BUT our country is at stake here and it is currently an WAR of information.

Most people are ignorant or deceived of what is going on and it is to the USA’s peril!!!!

Look what is happening to our economy! Where are the patriots? Politicians only loyal to their party and not the USA!

Sean Hannity is always downing Obama and saying “well I guess McCain is a little bit better”. I say we use those opportunities to get on the air and then mention Bob Barr. Just don’t tell the call screeners that you are for Bob Barr.

We need to spread this phone list nation wide and use the Neocon’s own bought and sold media against them.

Don’t bother trying to post on any of the larger websites. If you mention Bob Barr they won’t even post you.

Rush’s show needs to be invaded as well.

We need to pick a week where the Bob Barr rEVOLution calls every talk show in the country. Heck if w could use every day we can to call all these shows!

Who is with me? With the telephone and talk radio we can win this thing!

If Obama or McCain wins we are screwed!

Don’t forget Mike Huckabee supporters. He won several primaries including Tennessee because of his promoting the FAIR TAX. The media ignored this saying his support was from the “evangelicals”. If the media were honest it would be Huckabee not McCain.
Bob should go after HUCKABEES supporters as well as Ron Pauls.
