A libertarian candidate can increase their chances of success if they will campaign on the platform of allowing taxpayers to allot 50% of their taxes to the general treasury and the other 50% to five different departments or agencies.
This plan will excite the taxpayers, who will feel like they have some say in how their money is spent. It will garner much media attention. If successfully implemented, by any candidate, it will decrease the power of the lobbyists and the committee chairs.
It would be nice if the taxpayer could allot 100% of their taxes to different departments or agencies, but that would seem to radical for the electorate.

Stephen, this is absolutely stunning news. I’ve been around the Libertarian Party and the libertarian movement for over 26 years now, and I’ve never witnessed anything like this.
Even the Ed Clark campaign in 1980 didn’t reach heights such as this in major polling. I fully expect at leats a 5 to 10 million vote margin for Cong. Barr, now, perhaps even more (Perot type vote totals in the 15 to 20 million range?)
Congratulations to you, the Barr staff, and most especially to Mr. Barr himself for a job well done.

A Libertarian candidate can win but he needs to fill a gap that has existed in this country for decades, clear, concise leadership.
We need clear objectives with a clear vison for America. Foreign policy - Bring bin laden to justice. Energy crisis - use the presideny as a bully bullpit to promote energy independence in 4 years. Item by item, clear, precise objectives…

This campaign needs to be run as a serious Major Party campaign…not as another low-cost,low-class operation…of a 3rd Party…former members of both Major parties need to be included and academics too….Time to get the internet cranked up and get Ron Paul’s endorsement also…

This is very encouraging. I know that this number will increase as more and more people hear Congressman Barr speak and get to know the positions he takes on the major issues. I feel that when he wins the Libertarian nomination this week, that number will climb a few points, especially given the media attention he will get for the win.

Go, Bob, Go! McCain has left me too many times and I can not vote for him. Cong. Barr’s campaign has to take it to the major parties, get in the debates and give America a real choice. Frankly, I disagree with all the candidates on some major issues. But Cong. Barr is by far the best candidate. And the only one who stands for libery and economic freedom… America, this is your wake up call. Who would Lincoln choose?, who would Hamilton choose?.. We must choose wisely! For we surely live or die by our next choice…

Talk about a jump start for our party! Couple the disenchantment with the democrats and republicans versus the name recognition of Barr.
WE WILL HAVE A CONTENDER! Plus one can only imagine the trickle down effect for local Libertarian candidates.

This is truely a vigorous start ahead of the nomination. For the first time in my life I have donated money directly to a candidate, Bob Barr. I do so because I can not vote for McCain, and am tired of the lesser of two evils argument and the results it has wraught over time. The Republicans can no longer count on my vote, for they have left me behind.
One issue that is going to be key to Bob Barr getting his message out is his admittance to the upcoming Presidential debates. We can learn from Nader’s experience with the Commission on Presidential Debates in 2004. His exclusion by the Democrat and Republican controlled Commission on Presidential Debates the last time around relegates all alternative parties to mere ripples on a vast sea. Unless or until the power of the Commission on Presidential Debates is thwarted by shame or lawsuit all alternative candidates dont have a hope of winning, but DO have the power to split voter blocks and swing elections, ala jury nullification.
I say, let the nullification begin. And, I’m putting my money where my mouth is. Won’t you?

If you love what makes America great, then vote for Bob Barr, I am.
