Two Recent Endorsements of Bob Barr

May 16th, 2008 by Staff

“There is only one candidate running for the LP nomination that can accomplish massive growth of the Kansas Libertarian Party – That candidate is Bob Barr.

“I wholeheartedly endorse Bob Barr to be our Libertarian Presidential candidate for 2008.

“As a candidate on a lower political level for the LP (State Senate), I believe that there can be a positive trickledown effect from our presidential candidate.

“Having met and listened to most of our LP candidates — I believe that our best option for the 2008 political season is Bob Barr.

“I believe that we need someone who has media savvy, someone credible to those outside the LP world, someone who can debate McCain and Obama and present himself in a compassionate, reasonable and intelligent manner in representing the Libertarian Party.

“I will be voting (in Denver) for Bob Barr as our Libertarian Presidential candidate!” — Rob Hodgkinson.

Rob lives is Stilwell, Kansas and he is currently the State Chair of the Kansas Libertarian Party. He currently serves as the Advisory Board Chair of Atlas!Liberty and is running for the District 37 seat on the Kansas Senate.

“Bob Barr is a candidate who can get the ‘foot in the door’ for libertarians. He’s media savvy, is well known, and credible. Just as important, he will speak to those in his former party who are disaffected by McCain.

“An active Bob Barr campaign should be welcome. It can be an effective tool for all Libertarians – radical and moderate – to further the cause of liberty beyond it’s current moribund state. Is some liberty better than none? Clearly, yes. It’s up to delegates to decide whether they want more liberty or remain satisfied with the status quo of diminishing freedoms in favor of an “all or nothing” approach. I strongly encourage delegates to consider the alternatives and support the best candidate going into Denver: Bob Barr!” — Gene Trosper

Gene Trosper is a former chairman of the Riverside County (CA) LP, who has organized successful campaigns against school bonds and property tax assessments, which lead to the elimination of a parks district in 1998. His “Libertarian Social Contract” has been used in the past as Libertarian outreach in the United States and Costa Rica. He currently lives in Wildomar, CA with his wife Shannon.

I’m still not sure about Barr. I suppose for me it’s a real schock to notice the meidia attention towards Barr but realize Paul is the best option. How is it possible that Paul who offers our nation the best option receives the least attention and Barr who has not been present at any debate has greater media attention then Paul.

It leaves me with two basic questions.

    1. Is Barr the spoiler for Paul?

    2. While Paul is still in how is it possible that Barr will obtain Paul’s votes?

I share my points with respect and deep concern. I have been a GOP member for years and no one other then Ron Paul has inspired me to become so active in the world of politics. Paul has an amazing record I have followed his suggestions over five years. I also have huge respect for Chuck Baldwin who is a real defender of the law of the land and who is also an amazing Christian who does follow the true gift from Christ.

As far as Barr I did revieiw some of the things Barr has votoed for found at thomas.org and I’m not impressed. Compared to Paul his history suggest poor reflection of past voting and this concerns me as well.

Try ontheissues.org, it’s a better website in my opinion.

I’d like to see Newt Gingrich or Mike Huckabee jump ship since the Democrats, I mean Republicans, managed to nominate McCain.

It would be nice to see Bob Barr come up with a big name like that for his ticket.

Ron Paul did a very good job when he ran for President as both a Libertarian and as a Republican. It was nice seeing him run, getting the attention he deserves for being “Dr. No.” in Congress.

  4. Kevin Hritz Says:

Bob Barr sends me the same impression of integrity that I get from Ron Paul. Bob Barr even looks and sounds presidential. In these crazy American days of mixed-up politics, war-time discontent and serious economic downturn, I do believe he stands a serious chance of winning this election.

Every day thousands of people are waking up to realize that this country is in serious trouble and we are desperately in need of an honest leader.

    Darel,

The only way voters would have to choose between Ron Paul and Bob Barr would be if Ron Paul won the GOP nomination and Bob Barr won the Libertarian nomination. Then, Bob Barr would have to decide to stay in the race for them to meet one another in an election.

Barring that (no pun intended), they’ll always be in different races (Paul in the GOP races and Barr at the Libertarian convention in a couple of weeks). So, there’s no reason to choose one over the other in terms of voting.

    1. I don’t see how Barr could be the spoiler for Paul. After all, Barr isn’t running in the GOP primaries or for the GOP nomination.

    2. Barr can receive votes from Paul supporters at the Libertarian convention (and that wouldn’t take any votes from Paul in his races), which is the only voting that will occur for Barr until the general election. By then, Paul cannot be “still in”. He’ll either be the GOP nominee or he won’t be.

  6. Keith Gardner Says:

    Kevin,

He did seem to stumble a bit under the intense line of questioning from Alan Colmes and the usual “do you want to legalize heroin and crack?” from Sean Hannity.

He also seems to talk a bit too much “thereof” like a lawyer.

Other than that, I think he does communicate better than Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is just so principled, it is easy for him to make clear statements at the expense of sounding nutty/frightening.

Bob Barr just needs to get a well-formed, easy-to-understand response when questioned in regards to the war on drugs, *** rights, and foreign policy. One advantage that Bob Barr has over conventional libertarians, he seems less nutty as he advocates responsible change and fails back on state rights.

Too bad Bob Barr isn’t a baptist minister like Mike Huckabee to promote the Fair Tax.

  7. Joe Lawson Says:

    Darel,

Here is the simple answer - Ron Paul is running on the Republican ticket. There is no way the liberal /Corporate dominated media would ever give Ron Paul the time of day as a Republican. Who did they push? - The Liberal I voted for Gore/Lieberman in 2000 - John McCain.

However, now its between McCain, Obama and Barr so obviously they think they will be helping Obama here by giving alot of media attention to Bob Barr. Well they may help Obama in a way, but look out Bob Barr could catch fire and outperform Ross Perot and with the whole thing. A majority of Americans do NOT want anyone from the major two parties - they are fed up. I would even venture to guess that if Ron Paul does not win the Republican nomination he will back Bob Barr either with an edorsement or by campaigning for Barr. I am currently a Ron Paul supporter and will continue to support Ron Paul for the Republican nomination, but will also start to campaign for Bob Barr. I have seen alot of political scenerios in my time, but this election cycle looks to be one where a Bob Barr could win this thing.

Keith Gardner, Newt will not jump ship from the GOP, he’s too busy making nice with the democrats and spreading lies about Global Warming….. er, wait, they have officially changed the term to “Climate Change” to cover all of their bases. I didn’t get that memo.

  9. Red LeaDER Says:

Ron Paul is the best choice so far, however if Barr can stick to Libertarian principles and leave the Republican conservative big govt global welfarism in the dust, then I can guarantee I’ll vote for him. He’s a friend of Ron Paul which means he’ll have a good head on his shoulders. Let’s get to it Mr. Barr, help us destroy Mccain and the neo-colonialist big govt global socialism and Bill Kristol type anti-Americanism currently ruining the country.

As the West TN. Coordinator for Ron Paul 08, I know how serious this race for the White House is. I still pray that Dr. No can and will win the repub. nomination, but I am also a realist…..I have started helping Bob Barr in his run, educating other RP supporters on Bob Barr, as well as the general public at large. Friends of Liberty, this CAN be our year. Let work for the betterment of our Country by voting OUT McCain & Obama….and voting in Liberty.
