Newsweek Interview
May 16th, 2008 by StaffBob Barr answers Newsweek’s questions following his announcement:
“…The post-9/11 world is a very different world from the one I served in Congress. The threats to our liberty in a post-9/11 world are dramatically greater than prior to that. The changes have really necessitated—in my case and I think in the eyes of a lot of Americans—a re-evaluation of where we stand on a whole range of issues regarding government power and have really highlighted the need to start rolling those back with greater urgency. “

How can I choose between Ron Paul and Bob Barr? Are they not both Libertarians? Make the choice easy, please.
What about a combined ticket? Paul/Barr- Barr/Paul- however you see it it still spells Liberty and Freedom.

Ron Paul said he will not run in the fall…

Bob has a lot of experience. He also wants LESS government as Ron Paul does. That’s a good thing. Who knows? Ron Paul may be his VP candidate in the end. This guy’s a sharp cookie.

Why would you have to “choose” between Ron Paul and Bob Barr? Paul got the ball rolling in the primaries, but has clearly stated that he will not run in the fall. Barr’s just picking up where Paul left off. I don’t think there’s any need to “choose” in the sense of supporting one and not the other, and I hope most people won’t see it that way.

Didn’t Ron Paul say he was going home to his congressional district if he is not the Republican nominee. As far as I know the only votes he will get will be write-ins.

Speaking of Ron Paul, I admire Ron Paul’s position on the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms. Perhaps Mr. Barr could elaborate on his position in greater detail?

Habeas corpus? If Bob Barr runs on reinstating habeas corpus, and only that, I will vote for him.

I think Barr can steal votes from Obama as well as McCain. Since he’s right in proclaiming the young voters as the most active, there will be plenty of opportunity for Barr to take Obama to task for his gigantic socialist expansion, as well as McCain for his Neo-Con socialist experiments, all of which should enlighten the youths.
However, Barr should not make the mistake of counting out the baby boomers who’ll be depending entirely on the socialist government. When November rolls around, the 60-ish 60s bunch will be waiting in the rain to pull those levers. I cannot say if those Gen-X’ers and Y’ers will be able to pull themselves away from their computers long enough to vote.
As for Ron Paul, he did a good job in identifying this country’s problems but failed to offer real solutions. His big-three platform of eliminating the IRS, demolishing the Federal Reserve, putting our money on the gold standard, and bringing all the troops home is a nice thought and a real solution, but implementing it is literally impossible. Too many big interests and big politicians benefit from these programs.
Therefore, Barr had best alert the voters to the solvable problems and inform them that real solutions can only come through a third-party president who will force Congress to work for the tax-payers for once. Let’s face it: An all Dem government will be a grim socialist give-away, while a Dem congress and Rep president will be deadlocked with pointless name-calling, just like it is now.
Go Bob! Speak the truth, speak it LOUD, and repeat it like a broken record.
